I'm laughing at the accidental theme of controversial takes on love and relationships - how divine haha.

I NEED to read You Made A Fool of Death by Your Beauty! Also loved the Middlesex review (which ive been meaning to read for probably about 3 years) & am very intrigued to hear what you think of Tomb of Sand! I have a copy but have not reached for it yet, I am probably being subconsciously deterred by the length.. Tilted Axis are publishing another Shree book this year so I wonder which I will manage to read first!

oh yeah same feelings about Tomb of Sand but the other day I was just feeling it you know. I don’t know if it’s just me but the writing is strange haha I don’t understand some things but there are moments of beauty in the writing. I think I have been reading it for 3 days now but I have only managed to read 100 pages. I saw Mike of Books on GIF review about it and he said to just power through on the first 150 pages or so and you will be rewarded. I trust Mike so I will push on haha.

Yeah I think Middlesex is up your alley. So many things to learn about history and other stuff.

If you get to read You Made a Fool of Death with your Beauty, maybe you can read it after something heavy. Light and you know where the story is going but still with substance and very very wonderful prose.

Thanks for reading, Martha!

Martha, just want to come back in here and report about Tomb of Sand in case you’re thinking of reading it soon haha. It’s a thick book but there’s a lot of white space! I think it reduces the book length by 25%. That’s all!

What a great reading month. Middlesex is on my list too! I read that Zadie Smith collection when it first came out and had similarly mixed feelings. I like her early work SO MUCH but her more recent books have been just ok for me. I think I hype myself up too much for her and then, of course, I am disappointed.

I am reading White Nights this month, let's chat about it if you do too!

love to hear your thoughts on Middlesex when you get the chance to read it! As for Zadie Smith, I’ve been wanting to read her novels for so long but after reading this essay collection I think I’ll put it in the back burner for now. Would still love to read her novels sometime in the future.

Will chat you up when I get the chance to read White Nights!

Thanks for reading, Petya!

I loved Middlesex so much but I read it quite a while ago so I’m glad to hear it holds up, I love when we get a characters historical backstory it makes things so much richer.

I’ve only read White Teeth by Zadie Smith and I loved it, thought it was hilarious and interesting so maybe don’t give up on her yet!! I think you have the right sense of humor for her earlier work.
