Hello there,
This week’s recommended book is Bossypants by Tina Fey.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 Stars
Tina Fey’s (of Mean Girls, SNL and 30 Rock) memoir.
I first attempted to read this book back in 2011, but it never appealed to me. I was never a non-fiction reader back then. Fortunately, I picked this up again and found my pace. As an iconic comedy writer, I wanted to know all about Tina Fey. I wanted to hear more stories about why she wanted to be a comedy writer. I wanted to know her writing process and how she deals with writer's block. As a copywriter myself, I wanted to know how many she writes in a day and what goes in her head when she writes.
As I was reading the book, I imagined Tina Fey saying all the words I was reading. The writing is conversational, like reading your friend's text. If you are curious to know what goes inside TV shows and how all the writers, producers, and actors operate to make a show, you can pick something out of this book. I realized how less isolating a TV show writer could be compared to other types of writers. TV shows usually have more than one writer, and they often collaborate on a storyline. In a comedy TV show setting, I can imagine how chaotic brainstorming sessions are where everyone's just piling up on one joke after another.
Happy reading and thanks for the inbox space!
