Book List # 1: Love Stories Spanning Decades
Love stories where the main characters fall in love at the wrong time, move on, and try to come back together for years.
Hi There,
I thought to try this new thing where I send book list recommendations in case somebody is looking for anything like this out there. This first book list are love stories that span years and years. I rarely read love stories but I particularly like books where the main characters fall in love at the wrong time but eventually find each other years later. I’m a sucker for the bestfriend-falling-in-love trope. This list is for the true romantics whose love never wanes even after years apart and those who persevere without the assurance of a happy ending. This is no way an exhaustive list but these are the ones I’ve read.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
An aging Hollywood icon finally tells the story of her scandalous life, her seven husbands, and the true love of her life.
One Day by David Nicholls
Dexter and Emma have been friends since 1988. The book chronicles each of their lives and their relationship every July 15, for 20 years.
Love, Rosie by Cecelia Ahern
Love, Rosie tells the story of two best friends, Rosie and Alex, who grow up together. As they move into their teenage years, they started to see each other in a more romantic light - until Alex’s family have to move the United States. The next decades are written with e-mails, letters, notes, and missed opportunities until they finally find each other. Side note: this is one of my favorite books of all time!
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Since you’re in a bookish newsletter, you’ve probably already read this book or at least know its story. Aside from its themes of the “Great American Dream”, social status, societal gender expectations, and others, it’s also about Gatsby's obsession to reunite with his former lover, Daisy Buchanan, whom he pursues years later after their separation.
The Time Traveler’s Wife
Henry met when Clare she was just six and he was thirty-six. They were married when Clare was twenty-two and Henry was thirty. Henry suffers from a strange genetic disorder that causes him to unpredictably time-travel thus their perplexing situation. The book chronicles Henry and Clare's struggle to lead normal lives despite their situation.
That’s all for today and I hope you like this list. If you have any list request, let me know and I’ll create it in the next newsletter. As always, thank you for the inbox space!
